I think that most of my initial inspiration to teach comes from the career accomplishments of my parents. My father teaches physical education and adapted physical education. My mother is a specialist who teaches students that are blind and have visual impairments how to read and write braille. She also teaches those same students how to use things like public transportation and canes that allow for them to live independently. Growing up, I realized how much my parents enjoyed their jobs and thought that I may also want to teach one day.
I have always enjoyed science and science-related material, but I have also found a separate sense of satisfaction that comes from helping somebody else understand something, science in particular. I think that teaching allows you to further your own understanding of a subject while also furthering the understanding of your students. My teaching experiences up to this point have taught me that when teaching, you do a great service for your students but also do a lot for yourself in the process.
